about the concept

Motorcyclists and their passengers are at risk. The facts speak for themselves.

  • Motorcyclists represent just 1% of all road traffic but account for nearly 20% of all road fatalities.
  • Around 500 motorcyclists and passengers are killed and 6000 seriously injured in the UK every year.
  • Motorcyclists are 45 times more likely to be killed on the road than car drivers (Source: Department for Transport)

That’s why the Thames Valley Police and the Thames Valley Safer Road Partnership have introduced the Thames Valley RIDE (Rider Intervention and Developing Experience) Scheme. By offering education rather than punishment, Thames Valley Police believe that by helping riders make more informed and therefore better riding decisions, the number of casualties will be reduced.

The training content has been developed and is delivered by experienced, knowledgeable professional riders. It has been built with riders in mind and the objectives are based entirely around the riding experience.
